About Film Gutter

Film Gutter is a review series hosted at the popular GINGER NUTS OF HORROR website, specialising in extreme horror. The genesis of the idea came about at the end of 2018, when GNOH was looking for new writers, and the series began on 29th Jan 2015 with a review of Marian Dora's DEBRIS DOCUMENTAR. Since then, Film Gutter has offered up a weekly review each Thursday looking at the darker and more obscure end of the horror spectrum and has now looked at over 200 movies in its time.

The aim of Film Gutter is to be accessible, and as such offers relatively short, spoiler-free reviews for people looking to delve further into extreme horror or dip their toes in the water for the first time. GNOH also hosts the occasional Gutter Talk section, where reviewer Alex Davis talks to figures from the world of extreme horror. This has taken in actors and directors including Stephen Biro, Uwe Boll, Kasper Juhl, Dieter Laser, Pollyanna McIntosh, Tom Six, Phil Stevens, Ashley C Williams and many more.

Creator and reviewer Alex Davis a life-long horror fan, and has used the series to expand his own horror viewing and explore the cult, underground aspects of the genre more. In his day job, he's a writer, tutor, lecturer and literature events organiser based in Derby. In this time, reviewer and columnist Alex Davis has looked at some of the most brutal, brilliant and bizarre movies that extreme horror has to offer, as well as hosting interviews with a number of well-known figures in the field. Now, for the first time, Film Gutter will be going LIVE with a range of online talks exploring the world of extreme horror, starting in November 2020 with the TOP TEN EXTREME HORROR MOVIES session! Each talk will be provided on a 'Pay What You Like' basis for anyone wishing to attend - and that does including paying zero... :-) The aim is to continue on with monthly talks exploring different areas of extreme horror after November's pilot session.
